Norwich North by-election - July 23rd - LPUK candidate

The date for the Norwich North by-election, triggered by the resignation of Labour MP Ian Gibson, is being reported to have been set for 23 July.

The writ for the election will be moved on Tuesday, with the poll set to be held two days after Parliament breaks up for its summer recess on 21 July.

The seat will be a target for the Tories and should be a pointer to how Labour may fare in key constituencies in the south of England at the next general election.

The Libertarian Party will be fielding a candidate, Thomas Burridge, who at 18 will be the youngest candidate ever to stand for Parliament.

Brown and Cameron and Clegg have all given their support to the involvement of younger people in the parliamentary system, now lets see what the voters think.

Thomas agrees and has this to say:

Most sensible people will be saying what the hell does he know about anything. Well this is what I do know, the last twelve years of Labour has left my generation in massive debt, my generation will be paying off the excesses of the last twelve years for the rest of our lives, not only my generation, but our as yet unborn children.

Did we have any say in spending the rest of our lives in debt ? No we did not.

I am from the Debt Generation, and only LPUK has fresh answers from a new Generation.

At 18 Thomas is very mature despite his very youthful looks, so dont be fooled, and dont be put off by the already mounting voices who are saying that he cannot know anything at 18.

Thomas recognises the debts, knows where the faults lie, and has answers and policies that can make a real difference to the way in which we are governed.

He certainly has my support, and I am going to ask you to give him your support.

To run a successful election campaign we need funds, lots of funds, so I am asking that you contribute generously to help us to get this young man elected, a fresh face with fresh ideas to put the new generation into the decision making process. The old faces have failed, have been disgraced, so lets help Thomas to put an end to the old kind of devious government.

I'm often frequently surprised how young people seem to have it nailed these days. Our generation has to work on disaffection with the old political ways. The young need no encouragement.

23 July? Not much time for action. Can we get some sort of leaflet quickly designed and get printing orders in by next week or so? I would be more than happy to make the journey from London to campaign in Norwich North, I say we get a team together and organise some campaigning!

Socialism has robbed the younger generations more than any other.

It's not surprising that they are the ones waking up and smelling the coffee first.

Correct apostrophes are a good thing.

Good luck to you Thomas. As my pastor always tells me if you dont stand for something you'll fall for anything.

Ian,

Playing devils advocate for a moment is it still feasibly possible to maintain our manifesto commitment to abolish income tax? I'm aware of the injustice of the state dipping their hands in my pockets with a gun to my back but I'm wondering how feasible such a move really is in this economic climate.

If I'm chosen to stand in the north this will be the first question any of the locals ask me; we need credible answers to these questions.

If he's such a great candidate, why no press release about him?

18 huh? Could be unpredictable. Watch out mainstream...!

TomRat,

Yes, scrapping Income Tax is still our flagship policy.

It is not only feasible, but an essential element of rebuilding our economy, putting the spending power back into the hands of the consumer rather than Government.

Spending with real money, rather than borrowings, reviving the real economy rather than supporting the debt based downward spiral we are currently in.

Cutting Government spending will reduce the need for income based taxation, giving that spending power back to the consumer will increase revenues in other areas allowing government debt to be repaid without further burden on taxpayers.

Boss,

Dont get me wrong; I believe there are fewer ways to deal with the current madness of King Brown and whoever replaces him - people seem to have forgotten that it is not government money they are spending but ours/theirs/your money, and in many cases our childrens money - we need to remind people of this.

The problem I have is that this reality is hard for people to wake up to; most people would find it hard to tell you when Napoleon pounded on Europe like a piece of veal, let alone know that it was this threat that initiated income tax that we now take for granted. It is a hard sell because people are naturally attuned to believe there is a catch; few are willing to believe this catch is freedom.

While I sympathise greatly with the Libertarian Party, and think this young man seems pretty well screwed on, I cannot bring myself to agree with such young people standing for Parliament. I am only one year older (19) and, while I believe I would make a better job of being an MP than most of the current crop, I also believe that people should have at least a few years real life experience of the workplace behind them before standing for parliament. I think he should wait until he is, say, 28 rather than 18.
