The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today faced calls to apologise for his "out of touch" comment that his £250,000 earnings for writing a weekly Telegraph column were "chicken feed". Begging the question... How big are his chickens?
I personally have no problem with anyone earning that amount of money, especially when he "donates £50,000 from his annual fee to charities". Who cares if he made a comment, most probably in jest. (It is Boris, what do you expect?!)
Is the world full of people that can't stand the thought of someone else earning more than they do? That's what this is all about.
Completely agree but to say, as an elected mayor, that it is chicken feed for a mornings work a week is a little crass. Besides, it was a good excuse to crack open photoshop.
Putting crass lefty greed to one side (the cause of MSM fury on this I think), the remaining criticism is that doing outside work is a distraction from running the city. Boris knows this, of course.
What was said is a case of a known gaffe prone and occasionally bumbling intellectual attempting to mitigate and minimize the amount of time he spends on something and then doing what comes naturally in the process.
Its this nature that made Boris popular to start with, so the media conveniently forgetting it now he's in power is just plain dishonest.
After watching that part of the interview, Boris' answers were quite good.
The interviewer was trying to press the point of money which is not what this is about - it is about the time spent doing the 'second job' and whether that affects his actual work (which it doesn't seem to do as he uses his free time), the interviewer didn't seem too bothered about that.
And Boris: "I don't presume to ask you what you earn FROM THE TAXPAYER.." - fair point.
I realy do hate the BBC, they are a bunch of gobshites.

He must be referring to the famous EU Chicken Feed Subsidy, which, actually, probably exists.
This is a stupid story.
