Best Libertarian....

Well I thought I would get more of discussion post going rather than an informative one.

What is the best Libertarian movie....?

What are the best Libertarian songs...?

obviously I mean "themed", doesn't have to be Libertarian directed or sung, lol.

For Movie I would probably say "The People vs Larry Flynt",

For Song I am pretty tempted to go for "The Government Totally Sucks" by Tenacious D
Just because I came across it whilst sorting my ITunes today. But there are LOADS of great ones, so lets get the discussion going!

I guess because the holidays are coming up I thought I would try a "fun" post, rather than depress us all with the scary madness going on in the world today.

So feel free to give me your list, or top 5 or top Libertarian fiction book, or top Libertarian food, top Libertarian mode of transport...

everything and anything is permitted really :)

Sci-fi novel- Robert Heinlein's 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress',

Film- V for Vendetta

TV series- Firefly

Song- RATM 'Killing in the Name of' (the band are very Marxist, but that song has a strong anti authority message IMO)

Not a published song perhaps, but I love this one I put on my blog last month.

Be warned if you haven't seen it though, the melody and chorus are insanely catchy. You may find yourself humming it for weeks after just a couple of plays.

Wow that is a great song!
Crazy how catchy it is :P

V for Vendetta is such a great film, but I really wish you got to see his face! (or maybe just a bit of it rather than the whole thing)

Check out this song:

Frank Turner, English Musician, he has some really great stuff.

Surely the top libertarian anything should be 'whatever you like'? ;-)

I can't think of a song or movie (other than VfV of course, but it's already been done) off the top of my head but a favourite libertarian book that I keep coming back to out of several possibles by Terry Pratchett is Night Watch.

Film; Brazil. A tongue-in-cheek story of a man who is stuck in an authoritarian world, where your unlicensed plumber is considered a dangerous terrorist, and the security services don't need CCTV cameras because they already know everything about you...

"Failure to confess quickly could seriously harm your credit rating!"

Brazil rates highly, sure... but also

Ghostbusters

As for songs, maybe Bullshit Politicians, by Propagandhi?

Bullet in the Head is better than Killing in the Name of, for Rage against the machine songs.

Are we forgetting The Fountainhead?

Book: Anthem (not read Fountainhead, sorry!)
Song: F**k the police by NWA
Film: Network; just finishing watching it now and it is the coherent rage Howard Beale exudes is brilliant.
Game (?): obvious one but I'd say Bioshock, if you ignore all the Randisms.

Movie: Thank you for smoking

One of my favorite movies and glorifies free choice over governmental paternalism.

Fountainhead is where Rand and I part ways: it's all about IP being the one true property.

Song: Ticks and Leeches by Tool

You can also go and pay to download RATM Killing in the Name of to sabotage The x factors chart monopoly - should you be so inclined...

Actually, I was talking about the 1949 movie with Gary Cooper. Whilst I can both see and agree that Ayn seems to see things beyond where I stand the movie relates to individuality in the face of conformity. A couple of carefully worded search terms in Youtube brings it up.

Hello,

I just wondered what the LPUKs affiliations and contacts were like with LPs in other countries? Also, are you in contact with the 'Republican' Libertarians in the US,such as Ron Paul (and hopefully soon Rand Paul,Peter Schiff and Kokesh)?
