"Bailey said he thought it was the end of his life and the lives of the 10 people inside his apartment for a birthday party after two masked men with guns burst in through a patio door. “They just came in and separated the men from the women and said, ‘Give me your wallets and cell phones,’” said George Williams of the College Park Police Department. This is relevant to my interests.
Note to those reading -- it's actually pretty hard to hit someone shooting a pistol, even from close range, without training (and even then, were it *my* girlfriend about to get raped, I expect all that would go out the window...) so don't be too hard on that second guy for missing.
Whilst we are seeing the state or government policies remove such rights as to defend ones self, property or loved ones it might be worth noting the Axiom of Non-Aggression. Equally, I would represent one of a few other facets of this insofar as weapons also being tools in the hands of responsible persons.
No man, woman or child should be forced to be made defenseless against aggressions taken upon themselves, their property or their loved ones.
No government elected by a people shall take such force (or be given such powers) as to unarm a people who so wish to be armed. When a government carries out these actions there can only be one reason and that is to take away the ability of an individual or individuals from defending themselves from the state or government.
This is another in a long steady programme of rights being ripped off us.
The Bill of Rights 1689 was clear. It said we could arm ourselves and then, in the very same sentence, qualifies itself by saying "...as allowed by law". Subsequent statutes eroded what was "allowed by law" so much that we now find ourselves defenceless against those that would harm us or our families.
I notice, however, that the law stipulating that every "English boy of 12 years and over is to be taught the ways of the bow" remains on the rolls.
Is that the answer?
It beats the hell out of standing there in your pajamas while some cretin helps himself to all your stuff.

At the time of the BoR that people keep going on about, you weren't allowed swords, daggers, pikes etc. As technology moved on that included new weapons like guns.
What you are calling for is an arms race a la America, as opposed to the more logical reversal of gun controls back to a pre 70s level.
