Regulation and Corporations

Of course we recognise in this relationship that big government is the problem.

But it's amusing to see how some companies will use regulation to their advantage.

Nice video. Libertarianism means legalising drugs, only putting the most dangerous prisoners in jail, 24/7 drinking, and a society that doesn`t care for the poorest, the weakest and the sick. A society that is the survival of the fittest and dog eats dog.
One good thing is that the leadership are about as far away from Libertarianism as you can get as they understand that it is morally repugnant and would if put forward to the electorate make the party unelectable.

Protip: Govt welfare isn't "caring for the poor". Charity it. Govt=/=society.
If you ACTUALLY give a shit about poverty, you'd be doing something to help instead of getting your little friends in government to force others to care.

I most certainly don't believe in or agree with everything the UK Libertarian Party stands for, which is one of the reasons I've never even considered joining it...

That said, so people know where I stand, I DO agree with a lot of it too. The reactions you have above to this presentation is I believe typical of the big government supporters.

It's simply a fact that legislating about almost anything doesn't have ANY EFFECT WHATSOEVER except to make life harder for ordinary decent people and employ moe bureaucrats... Banning something makes no f****** difference at all.

A couple of simple bits of explanation - making anything illegal has NO effect unless you have an efficient and reliable police force and justice system to make it stick with THE CRIMINALS. What we have at present simply makes life hell for ordinary decent citizens (the soft and easy targets that improve the endless figures the police have to present to bureaucratic government) whilst leaving them totally impotent when those whose life is being made a living hell by a small minority assholes who wear their ASBOs like war medals.

I, personally, have never tried illegal drugs and that has NOTHING AT ALL to do with the law (if you are of a mind to, that is easy to circumvent because the police spend most of their time filling forms. The reason I don't take drugs is very simple - I was brought up to think for myself and to protect myself and I am pretty sure that if I tried I would be hooked and there are already too many controlling factors in my life for my liking.

As to helping the poor that someone mentioned - UTTER BS! The poor are NEVER helped by legislation and bureaucracy. At the moment, in the UK, the only people who can be CERTAIN they will get nothing are the genuinely poor and needy who have tried to help themselves and failed, or are otherwise in trouble through no real fault of their own - everyone else... maybe, it depends on how well you know the system and how to "operate" within it.

A REAL welfare system would use genuine human beings who are well paid (not thousands upon thousands of poorly trained and often not very bright, cheap employees) to make realistic decisions about whether an individual DESERVES help within stated GUIDELINES, not hard and fast rules. An honest and dependable appeals system would avoid prejudice and cheating by those people.

The only way we will ever see improvement is through MUCH smaller, but VASTLY more efficient government. THAT is so unlikely it is probably only a dream.

I fear for the human race - I really do... Unless the majority of people can be persuaded to accept the fact that all this shit from current administrations is simply designed to brainwash normal people (and has largely succeeded) into believing that they NEED government to control them and protect them (which incidentally they cannot!) it's all gonna go down the tubes pretty soon - it's a foregone conclusion. You simply cannot replace decency, a sense of personal responsibility and common sense with regulation - it's a physical impossibility.

I *knew* I'd read watsonrodrig's comment somewhere before. I was reminded that it's a straight lift of Jack Stone over at ConHome (link). Of course, repeating whatever drivel it is spoon-fed could just prove that it's a Labour party clone, but the Bali advert makes me suspect spambottery.
