Despite my earlier determination and optimism, I have had to concede that the Liberal Democrats will never be an economically liberal, civic libertarian party, and that holding out hope for that is psychologically draining and a waste of effort.

So...what's she going to do about it?
I know that many people are perplexed that Ron Paul retains membership of the Republican Party yet refuses to "tow the party line" on any issue where he disagrees with the party leadership (most issues).
The "party" question is less confusing when you realise that Congressman Paul retains membership of three political parties:
Republican, Libertarian and Constitution.
Ron's alliegance is to principle - not party.
Contrast this with Daniel Hannan's unprincipled and unqualified endorsement of the Conservative Party.
That's a bit unfair on Hannan I think, he opposed the conservative policy with healthcare, and he is constantly taking a strong stance on the EU which I'm sure Cameron and the conservatives as a whole would rather avoid entirely.
As for Charlotte Gore, I saw her blog end which was a shame as I used to read her blog a lot. I hope she still writes sometimes for the devils kitchen because Chris offered her a spot there, and I also hope she joins LPUK and stand as a local councillor - she wont win, sure, but she will be backed up by people who agree with her ideals and principles and that would surely be refreshing for her after her stint with the liberal democrats.
Hate to break it to you but Gore came out, via starting to write for CiF as "the director of new media for the classically liberal think-tank Liberal Vision"
Something not remotely mentioned on her blog.
I liked her and her blog, just a shame she couldn't fess up to being part of the machine.
@Ben: Hannan explicitly said "vote conservative" in his Telegraph blog. He bashes Labour without acknowledging that his own party is just as bad. Either he honestly doesn't get it (which is bad), or he's just another career politican (which is worse).
Who is Charlotte Gore? Al Gore's daughter?
KB: Jesus H Christ have a day off! The Langoliers are coming! Wooo!

Just for the record, Charlotte used to state on her blog that she was a member of the Liberal Democrats. Recently, she wrote a blog post stating that she had decided to stop being classed as a Lib Dem blogger but, for now, was not leaving the party.
On Liberal Vision you can see her listed clearly and the people who run Liberal Vision are all Liberal Democrats.
Charlotte also used to write regularly about the Liberal Democrats and their policy positions.
Her public position has consistently been that she is a free market libertarian who is a member of the Lib Dems and making her case within the party.
There are other classical liberal voices within the Lib Dems too and whether that makes them part of 'the machine' is up to others to decide. Arguably, anyone who engages in political debate is part of something.
