"Government is not the giver of rights; only God confers these to the people. People create government, giving it certain and limited powers. Only eternal vigilance by the people will confine government to its proper role."

One could say that Govt is a giver of rights, and the taker of the obligations those rights bring.
Government is not the giver of freedoms, but should be the defender of them.
Unfortunately, it tends to be the taker.
God isn't the giver of rights either. We are born with them
Governments are quick to remove rights and replace them with benefits.
This is never a good deal for us humans.
Refuse, always.

Oh alright, alright, short treatise:
Step 1, define terms:
God = Existence OR God = [Malignant demon with magic finger and endless patience (Baxendale doctrine)]
Right = Power OR Right = Freedom
Step 2, oh sod it. I didn't want to be a blog comment I wanted to be - A LUMBERJACK!
Me too !
"Right = Power OR Right = Freedom"
I disagree mainly because it conflates Freedom with right.
"Right" implies something needs to be furnished by a third party, so "the right to education" implies that education needs to be provided.
"Freedom" implies the absence of coercion against the goal, so "freedom to be educated" or "freedom to get an education" does not imply any obligation to deliver the education, just ensure that others do not stop one getting it, i.e. Rule of Law.
Rights therefore bring obligations upon third parties and so demand a form of State and coercion to fund it all.
Freedoms demand only the absence of coercion, and at worst, a State providing Law and Order.
So "rights" and "freedoms" are very different.
We need a Bill of Freedoms, not a Bill of Rights!
Joe Vogler was born in 1913 and died a few years back. He was born in a more religious age and words like rights change their meaning over a period of time viz 'Gay'
I have no doubt as a founder of the Alaskan Indepence Party, that is based on Libertarian Principles he knew what the word Freedom meant.
His researches into how Alaska became a State of the Union is eyeopening. The Native Indians were excluded from Voting, but the hundreds of thousands of US military plus dependents were allowed to vote,by Act of Congress.
I admire what you have done here. I like the part where you say you are doing this to give back but I would assume by all the comments that this is working for you as well.
