I called the first house I built 'The Tything' because one of my ancestors led and was involved in a near riot three hundred plus years ago when the Church authorities tried to reinstate the Tythe. As much as I agree with your views and I see the inherent dangers quite eruditely put forward by yourself when politicians put forward such things as this I also see the flaws in your protestations. In theory you are perfectly correct of course and the Libertarian point of view is the ideal. However to be in a world that is truly Libertarian it would be necessary never to have contact between human beings because once you do you start the semblance of a society and for a society to function it needs rules and as that society grows and becomes more complex then more and more rules are necessary. The more rules you have then the less liberty you are bound to have so the true Libertarian ideal recedes, the best a Libertarian can do is ensure that these rules are applied fairly unfortunately that will inevitably require more liberty sapping rules.
NEVERTHELESS, THE CIVIL LAW is and must be neutral about who has a more noble or rewarding faith.
