I had promised that I would put my platform for Party Leader up this week, unfortunately there were a couple of rather pressing things that had to be dealt with.-
The Information Commissioner ruled on the 22nd September 2010 that the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills, with whom I have been fighting a protracted legal battle with for over three years, had indeed had been withholding evidence, and they should supply the data required with no further delay (A year to date). This has along with the forged evidence filed into Court by our former French Director, and the Perjury carried out by a couple of witnesses has meant that this is all going back into Court in the next ten days. BIS has still not satisfied the ruling by the ICO as I write.
The good news as far as I am concerned is through the good offices of Liam Fox MP, Ed Davey MP Minister of State at BIS, who has ordered a review of the case. A similar request to 'Lord' Mandelson a year ago was turned down by Ian Lucas MP, these are the two that are responsible for witholding evidence and the breaches of the Data Protection Act and Freedom Of Information Act. It will be interesting to read the maggots that are in Mandelson's drawers, when they finally comply with the Law.
It has also been suggested that I meet with Senior Officials at 1 Victoria Street to discuss matters.
I am writing a book about my experiences and battles with the legions of darkness that until recently ruled this country. A new title has recently been suggested that of ' The Fourth Man'
Lastly there was this little bit of casual racism on behalf of the state to deal with. As Libertarians we have to show that we care about Liberty and do something about it.
Anyway onto more important things my platform.-
Abolish the Libertarian Party
If I am elected as Party Leader I will ask the Party to vote to change the name and constitution of the party to that of the Libertarian & Constitution Party. My reasons-
We have had less than a thousand members since foundation in 2007, as a party trying to return Britain to a Liberal Society we are never going to succeed in this two and a half party State, any more than any of the other minor parties have that been around in the last twenty years.
The State has had a fright in the last two years, people have woken up to the lost of civil liberties under the Blair Brown Axis, I think that both the Libertarian Party and Libertarians outwith the Party have pushed that message home. Had we a written Constitution and a Constitutional Court, Lisbon would not have been signed in a broomcupboard in the dark by Brown, because it would be un constitutional. ninety per cent of the Laws passed by Parliament in the last fifeteen years would have been declared unconstitutional.
A written Constitution would enshrine the Individual in Law above the State, this would deal with the politicised Civil Service (Damian McBride and Friends) who have decided not to accept the result of the election last May and are fighting a rear guard action in every level of local and national government to protect their jobs and for a big State to be involved in every facet of your lives.
Root and branch radical reform with checks and balances on the naked power of Parliament. The Constitutionan I advocate is the Swiss Federation 1999 model. It is one that our Statist opponents will hate, therefore it should be adopted. Membership of the EU would be declared un Constitutional because 'We the People' have not had a say by referenda. Referenda should be the norm not the exception.
Constitutional Reform is going to appeal to more people and to allow us to advocate a Britain that is on Libertarian lines.
The BBC
As party leader I will advocate that this institution which is allowed to raise its own tax, should have its State Financial lifeline severed and to become a commercial operation. The People of this country do not need a state propaganda service that uses the Guardian for eighty per cent of its recruitment adverts. That does not reflect a pluralistic society.
Defence
The only legitimate role of the State is Defence, by that I mean Defence, not fighting wars of Agression. Blair should be well reminded that senior members of the German Government in 1947 were executed and imprisoned for launching wars of agression and occupation.
The Armed Services should be equipped with the very best equipment and professional soldiers paid a living wage. The wounded, maimed and dependents of the dead should be honoured and given the best medical and support by a Military Medical Service to the end of their days. Not dumped on the NHS, to queue up behind Darren who has cut his leg whilst falling over because he was too drunk to see the broken bottle Wayne had thrown at him.
The Defence of these Isles should be expanded by expanding the Reservist forces, I have very little problem with aircraft carriers that have blue water capability to protect trade. I have serious problems maintaining bases where we are foreign occupiers. Likewise I am reluctantly convinced that we need to retain a nuclear capability, as deterrence is the best form of defence.
The Economy
The Market should dictate the economy, as it is the most efficient way of dealing with enterprises. As a Constitutinalist, each Canton/County should be able to fix its own corporate and tax rates as in Switzerland. Those Counties that wish to attract industry and reward entrepreneurs will need to lower tax rates.
Monopoly situations do keep prices high at the expense of the consumer. I would have let the big banks fail, and not one penny of tax payers money be spent on an organisation that had failed. Bankruptcy is the counterbalance to Capitalism, it eradicates the unfit and inefficient. The Bank of England should be making it far easier for new entrants to the Banking Market to encourage choice and stop the 'too big to fail mentality'
The National Health Service
This is a sacred cow of British Politics, therefore by rights it should be slaughtered as it is 1950's bureacratic socialism personified. However the British have great affection for the NHS, for a Libertarian to advocate its overnight scapping is not going to be taken seriously.
As Leader I would advocate taking the National (State) out of the equation. Each Caton/County would be responsible for raising the taxes to support its Health Service, the Whitehall Ministry would be shut down and the buildings sold off. If the Canton wants high Taxes for a High Spending Health Service the local people vote on that option. If another Canton wants to go over to a private insurance based system they can vote for that. Equally if the ex NHS is a filthy, uncaring incomptent one. It is closed down, the staff sacked.
HMRC
This failing and autocratic organisation with its own laws to give it draconian powers to enter your home should be abolished in favour of local cantonal/county elected finance boards who decide the level of taxes to be raised and what for.
Welfarism
Bureaucratic Socialism has created a dependent under class that creates an equally dependent middle class managing that class with bogus jobs that require the poor to stay poor and dependent on the State.
Quangos
Any organisation that receives money from a taxpayer should have directly elected members running it. Quangos with multi million pound budgets and 'independent' powers are just plain wrong, they would become uncontitutional.
I will be posting other stand points up as my personal platform, but at the end of the day I want Party members to be part of the debate and to put policy ideas up.
In summary I am for breaking up the State, and checking the power of politically motivated public servants.

Interesting platform. Thanks for putting it up.
On this point:
"

- Would you still have guaranteed savings up to a certain amount, or not? I have a friend who says that savings should be guaranteed, but that banks which fail should go to the wall. That way, customers are still protected. What do you think?
I think a much more cost effective option would be to assist in the transfer of savings and deposits to another bank. Let's call it a march rather than a run on the failing bank.
It's inconvenient for the customer of course but preferable to losing the hard earned cash. It also has the secondary effect of providing the other bank with an infusion of capital, perhaps stabilising them.
@Celteh - what a bloody good idea.

If the financial institution is relying on a Taxpayers guarantee to act in a reckless manner, it deserves to go to the wall. It that case if you want risk free savings (?? no such thing) lend it to the Government in the form of bands.
My thinking much as Celteh is that the failed bank should go into liquidation at 12.00 and administrators from the BOE at 12.01am, organise an orderly transfer of savers funds to other institutions and or new institutions administered by the BoE. Then every employee in failed bank is out of work including directors, and the assets and buildings sold to cover the costs of the BoE transfer.
What has happened is that the Banks have been bailed out, with taxpayers cash and they have stopped functioning as banks. Better that liquidity was invested in sound banks or business.
There is an old saying- Dont through good money after bad.
If you're considering rebranding, how about CLCP - Classical Liberal Constitution Party?
- Avoids 'libertarian', which is tainted in the minds of many by association with American gun nuts (and the LA — much as I love them, their views are too extreme for most); others confuse it with libertine.
- 'Classical' hearkens back to a freer time.
- May attract true Liberals away from the SDP.
- The constitution aspect sounds less incidental. We don't want any old constitution; we certainly don't want a constitution like the European one; we feel a Classical Liberal Constitution is essential to protect citizens from the state.
The term constitution is meaningless in this context. Presumably its meant to imply a written constitution as opposed to our so called unwritten one? However that doesn't in and of itself make it a good constitution.
I remember a discussion a few years ago when one constitutional expert reckoned the best ever written constitution was one written by Stalin, fat lot of good that did in protecting the population.
By all means advocate a written constitution but lets not make the name so cumbersome by including something that lacks meaning. Its difficult enough explaining libertarianism without having to include constitution as well
Who are you, Guthrum?
'Written by Stalin' Top down thats the difference. Stalin's Constitution enshrined the duty of the Individual to the State not the other way round.
I am convinced that currently after sixty years of Welfarism the vast majority do not want to be free. Cantonal Government would allow Socialist regions to stay dependent, whilst not sucking the rest of the country dry.
Wales has Regional Government that is Statist/Fabian but demands subsidies from the rest of the UK and Europe, we are part way to Cantonal Government with Scotland.Wales, Northern Ireland, but it seems to me you are only allowed to be 'independent' if your economy is dependent on Westminster.

Andrew best of luck, it's a good pitch... but with all due respect, the major problem our party is facing is not what the name is... or the small differences in the manifesto that need tinkering...
The party needs structure and to streamline!
We need to get off the blogosphere, it's over shadowing us and as a result there is not enough focus on activity in the real world.
We need:
1. A completely restructured website that would allow members to comunicate through it (much like the BNP's site) and would allow posting of these blog posts on there rather than on an external site... We are spreading ourselves too thin (we're over blogspot, facebook etc...)
we need to have 1 place for all members to get all they need out of the party (communication, campaigning material, event details) and this should all be done through the party site.
2. We need regular communication from the leadership to the membership. The US Libertarian Party sends out a newsletter to subscribers and members everytime they make a statement on political developments in their country...
we need the same.
Rather than posting blog entries (which care actually rather good)...
It would be more effective to keep the membership updated and in the loop by emailing them all directly with an official reaction/announcement.
3. Rather than focus on elections and media appearances... we need to push for a membership surge.
I personally believe more people will be willing to join the party and STAY as members if we have the structure mentioned above, and if have better communication to make them feel involved.
If you do take on the role of leader, I hope you will take these points into consideration. I am always more than happy to help out where and when I can... so let me know.
At the moment I am working on designing a HTML coded framework to use for email newsletters. Will show it to you as soon as it's polished off.
What do you think about my proposals? I would suggest we launch a fund to raise money to get the website polished off to really top quality css standard... I am sure many members would donate towards it. Everything else should start to fall into place afterwards.
Regards,
Max Andronichuk
1. We need regular communication from the leadership to the membership
2.A completely restructured website that would allow members to comunicate through.
These are my two top objectives.
Yes I need all the help I can get if I am elected.
Andrew, a decent pitch.
I agree with alot of what Max says. I am really disapointed with your desire to see The Libertarian Party totally rebrand itself. At a time where I was under the impression the party has little to no funds, I see the idea of a complete rebrand as pretty wreckless. How about some financial and party support for local candidates in next year's elections?
I am also disapointed you failed to mention the currently diabolical situation of internal and external communications of the party.
I will leave this on a positive:
I was pleased to see your stance on the NHS. I may not agree fully with your ideas, but I am pleased to see you understand the fact that if The Libertarian Party is to ever get anywhere in UK politics, we must moderate the party's opinion on the NHS.
Good luck Andrew!
Are there any other candidates for leadership? I understand Chris Mounsey is re-standing. Am I correct in thinking this?
Alex
See above for priorities.
We don't do discussions on the parties finances on a public forum.
But we have worked on the maxim of we don't spend what we do not have. The Unions/CBI are not going to give us a shed load of money, nor have we as a party advocated receiving state funding.
The Membership have always been particularly good at responding to appeals for money for defined projects such as elections, however we need to expand that membership and get supporters.
As for other candidates they have until Oct 15th to put nominations up to Rob Waller.
As to rebranding we have spent three years howling in the wind as 'pure' Libertarians, I tend not to waste my time on lost causes.
Therefore we have to create an evironment were we can create a 'free society' for those who want to be free from oppressive Government. So there has to be a focus. There are a multitude of organisations and political parties that want Constitutional change, with zero focus.
I think as Libertarians that is were we can make an impact, because we are not making much of an impact at present.
Guthrum
I have always felt as Max does, that we aren't doing enough in the real world and that this is the reason for our failure. I joined the party expressly because I wanted to see how many votes we could steal in St Albans but there needs to something else on top of election campaigning so that we stay consistently active - membership drives, single issue campaigns, awareness raising stunts, outreach programs and well produced topical commentary.
Changing names strikes me as a cop-out - a highly visible step that costs nothing in time and effort and can be achieved simply by spending the accumulated donations on new headed paper and cards. There is no guarantee that the name change will lead to an exciting program of real world activities, effective communications, or actual votes in elections.
I would like to see a party that has a broad focus - with no single issue in its name - running regular and topical campaigns. It is, I grant you, profoundly secondhand to pander to the agenda of the day, but it seems to me that screeching about obscure issues will not engage everyday folk. The issues we need to fight on are concrete topical examples of the broader themes you outline, for example.
Out: "BBC" In: "BBC Salaries"
Out: "Abolish the Libertarian Party" (so inward looking!): In: "The AV referendum"
etc etc
A sad old blogspot with a dazzling array of third party widgets and without a single top 10 libertarian blogger posting to it is not good enough. The web site needs re-doing and made consistent and topical. And why the hell is Chris Mounsey not a regular contributor? Whilst this is being done, real world activities needs to be organised under strong consistent leadership and made to happen.
